new cricket

I have played cricket for the first time today!!! indoors!!!
This is not the rubbish that gets played in a changing room during an english rain break, this is proper indoor cricket!!! wow it is different!!!
I went along to watch, to get an idea of the game in the hope that I may get a game in the future if they were ever short!! My time came earlier than expected! Whilst sitting down trying to learn the rules and regs, some one came up and said they were a man short and would I play. Well as Bruce had said to bring my kit with me, I was raring to go, even though I had no real clue of what to do!
Batting first, I hit the ball in some odd areas, but it turned out to be strangely affective, or that's what I thought!! Next was fielding - a slightly different story. I can only describe it as a mix between rackets (large and fast squash) and fielding at gully. What a nightmare, with the not so soft ball flying anywhere and everywhere. I can't say i was the best at that!! Anyway I have had the experience and I can only hope they are short again next week.
